History

MJ Children's ServicesMJ Children’s Services was registered in May 1999. Our first young person moved in May of that year. We have operated continually since then and worked with over 20 local authorities providing flexible services for both boys and girls all with differing needs. The company is owned by Guy Jones.

Before establishing MJ Children’s Services Guy Jones worked in residential care for over 15 years in positions from warden and R.C.W. to manager and director, in both Local Authorities and within the private sector.

MJ Children’s Services has always been a small company allowing flexibility and effective planning through immediate decision making and the ability to respond pro-actively to presenting need. The intention as we move forward  is to offer the same effective management to a greater provision of services, thus providing a complete solution that will not only satisfy the needs of placing authorities but also greatly improve the chances of a young person enjoying a successful and satisfying life.

Education Services

MJ Children's ServicesAll young people need an education but not the same one. At MJ we accept that the young people we work have probably had some disruption in their education. Our aim is to place a young person in a setting that allows the education process to be as successful as possible.

There are a number of providers in and around the Cambridgeshire area, who can individualise programmes for young people.

  • On Track educational services
  • Leap educational services
  • Peterborough Alternative Curriculum Education
  • Stamford College

Our aim is to identify an appropriate resource for a young person as quickly as possible, preferably before residence begins, these is essential in establishing order and pattern in young lives allowing them to feel secure and start to recognise their worth.

We currently have an application pending to register our home, Thornberry Lodge as a school. This will further enhance the range of educational provision that is available and allow us to react even more swiftly to presenting need.
